Talatona - The National Director of Telecommunications and Information Technology, Matias Borges, reaffirmed the government's commitment to consolidating the liberalization of the Broadband market, promoting competition and encouraging the sharing of electronic communications infrastructure.
The government official, who was speaking at the opening of the 3rd edition of the "SER Digital" Program, an event promoted by the Angolan Investment Bank (BAI) Academy, stressed that the Angolan Government intends to maximize network efficiency, reduce costs and eliminate barriers in the market.
Matias Borges highlighted that the phenomenon of using Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) widely covers societies and plays a driving and guiding role in providing equal opportunities for citizens, as well as a harmonized approach.
“The sector has developed initiatives aimed at empowering citizens to use the internet and access platforms in a positive, informed and safe way,” he pointed out.
He added that as for the digital transformations recorded at all levels, they needed some pillars such as infrastructure, process, government, regulation and people, along this path, he spoke of the projects that began to be implemented to improve the National Broadband network and expansion of communications services in municipalities and communes.
Regarding the actions, he informed that at the moment the government has been implementing several projects, some linked to the national economy with a focus on digitalization, looking at harmonization of all the Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries.
Complying with the recommendations of the International Telecommunications Union, Matias Borges revealed that the Angolan government has already started implementing the national broadband network project, which it considers will boost existing infrastructures since 2010.
The official highlighted that the infrastructures received improvement and expansion works that reinforced the aforementioned project already underway and called “Conect Angola”.
Matias Borges said that the digital tool will help in the state administration services linked to finance, law, security, particularly due to the record of some security problems, both in traffic and in public road safety.
To him, a combination of efforts is necessary, from the highest to the lowest entity of a company, so that transformation and change of mentality are a driving action in this process.
“They must all be interconnected for this to happen, otherwise, even if we invest in digital transformation, it will not be possible to comply”, he said.
The BAI Academy initiative is part of the “O SER Digital” Program and aims to promote a strategic dialogue on technological trends and digital inclusion that are crucial for Angola to keep up with global changes in the area of transformation.
The event aims to be a platform for knowledge and sharing, challenging business organizations and society in general to adopt an innovative stance of learning and continuous growth, propel Angolan society towards the center of technological transformations.
The two-day event of debates and knowledge sharing will bring together renowned experts who will evaluate important topics on the digitization of financial services, digital leadership, inclusion of professionals in the new digital economy, as well as the impact of new technologies on companies, the economy and the daily livelyhoods of Angolan citizens.
