Lubango - The Court of Lubango, Huila Province, sentenced Monday the Portuguese citizen Walter Raposeiro, 65 years old, to 26 years in prison for the murder of his wife, Roxane Pestana.
While reading the sentence to the court, the trial judge, Gerardo Ukuma, said that the defendant shot dead his wife at midnight on September 25, 2021, in a location that is more or less
200 meters away from his residence in Lubango City, and then manipulated the crime scene to fake a suicide.
He informed that after the conclusion of 407 questions, the defendant was also charged with the crimes of defamation and slander, libel, physical and psychological domestic violence which accumulated the sentence.
He stressed that as a result of the crimes, the defendant must also pay the amount of 300,000 kwanzas of the justice fee under the terms of Article 89 of the Criminal Code, as well as 5 million kwanzas to the legitimate heirs of the victim, as well as he will have to pay 2 million kwanzas in compensation to the victim for slander, Sónia de Fátima Soares Pestana, the victim´s older sister.
Speaking to the press, after the reading of the sentence, the defendant's lawyer, André de Jesus, promised that he will appeal to the Lubango Court of Appeal, aiming to mitigate the penalty.
The family´s lawyer, Kito Fernandes, said that he agrees with the court sentence, considering that it shows that justice was done without influence.
The woman´s body was found inside her car and had gunshot in the head, and with the murder weapon, in an act that investigators considered to have been set up by her own husband, to pass for suicide. The victim was deputy manager of the Banco Internacional de Crédito (BIC) bank in Mapunda neighborhood,
At the trial, the defendant admitted that he is the owner of the gun and revealed that he has three other guns that are used for hunting and sport shooting, one of which he gave to his wife for personal protection, which he claims was used for suicide.
Walter Raposeiro and Roxane Pestana were together for over 10 years, when she was 20 years old and he was 50.
