Luanda - Angola Press Agency (ANGOP) won the press category of the 2023 SADC Media Prize, the organisation announced Thursday in Luanda.

The award went to ANGOP’s Journalists Francisca Augusto and Venceslau Mateus, who obtained 74.13 votes, out of a possible 100, with the work entitled "Benguela boosts economy with infrastructure in the Lobito Corridor".

This is an approach to the importance of three strategic infrastructures in that country’s south-based province, with focus on the Benguela Railway (CFB), the Port of Lobito and the Airport of Catumbela, crucial for the transport of goods to SADC States.

With this work, elected on last June 20th at the 28th Meeting of the Regional Committee for Awarding the Prize, the professionals received a certificate each, signed by the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tchissekedi, and USD 2,500 each (1250).

Francisca Augusto, with 11 years of journalist career, is part of the staff of the Political section, after having already been among the professionals of the Society Desk and the extinct Reporting Desk, of the National Newsroom.

Venceslau Mateus, a professional journalist of  22 years of career, has worked for National Radio of Angola (RNA) and Angola Press Agency (ANGOP), as well as for the Ministry of Culture, where he worked as press officer.

He is the current Editor-in-Chief of ANGOP's National Newsroom, a company where he has already provided services in different sections, such as Society and Leisure and Culture.

This is the first time that ANGOP wins a category of the SADC Journalism Prize, after having  won the National Journalism Prize twice, in the categories of Photojournalism (Rosário dos Santos) and Press (José Honório), in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
