Luanda - The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, will participate as from Monday, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, in the 3rd High-Level International Conference on the International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028”.

To this end, the Vice-President of the Republic left Luanda Saturday, heading to the conference venue, where she will represent the Head of State, João Lourenço.

According to a press release sent to ANGOP, Esperança da Costa will speak in the plenary session of the event that takes place from the 10th to the 13th of June this year, in the capital of the Central Asian country.

Secretaries of State for Water, Environment and Foreign Affairs, representatives of civil society and the private sector make up the Angolan delegation headed by the Vice-President of the Republic.


Conference
The conference will be divided into three main moments, the first being the holding of thematic forums by region: “African Forum on Water”, “Forum on Glaciers” and “Central Asian Forum on Water”.

In the second, the Plenary Session will open, the backdrop of which will be interactive dialogue focused on the implementation of the decade of water action and the results of the 2023 United Nations Conference on water.

The third moment will encompass debates related to issues such as “Water for climate, resilience and the environment: source for the sea, biodiversity, climate, resilience and disaster risk reduction (DRR)” and “Water for cooperation: cooperation transboundary and international water, intersectoral cooperation, including scientific cooperation and water, across the 2030 Agenda”.

The theme on “Decade of action in the field of water: accelerating the implementation of the decade's objectives, particularly through the UN Secretary-General's Action Plan” closes the plenary, in which Heads of State and Government, civil society and private sector.

Tajikistan Officially the Republic of Tajikistan, it is a mountainous country located in Central Asia, bordered by Afghanistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north, and China to the east. With a population of over ten million inhabitants, 143,100 square kilometers, the country was one of the republics of the former Soviet Union and became independent in 1991.

Its capital is Dushanbe, the largest city in Tajikistan, home to around one million inhabitants and home to several industries in the textile and energy sectors.
