Luanda – The newly re-elected secretary general of the Angolan Journalists Union (SJA), Teixeira Cândido, this Monday, in Luanda, reaffirmed the struggle to improve the social and salary conditions of journalists, as well as the launch of a monitoring of the press freedom in Angola.
According to the official, who was speaking at the swearing-in act, it is essential to invest in professional careers to give greater dignity to professionals on the journalistic area.
"We refuse to believe in luck. We are therefore available to fight for a remuneration that matches the demands of our activity", he reinforced.
Also as a priority, in his second term, Teixeira Cândido made it known that he will work with the directors of media instritutions, to create a credible journalism award.
Regarding the monitoring of press freedom, he added that the intention is to institute an annual presentation of a report on this matter.
According to Teixeira Cândido, the crime, or act carried out in the exercise of the activity, should not end in detention or criminal proceedings, but rather in civil compensation.
The national director of Communication, António de Sousa, stressed that the swearing in of the new SJA board symbolizes the foundation of a freer, more responsible media that can not only bring together the class, but also help in solving the main social problems, as well as strengthen public policies in the sector.
On her turn, the chairwoman of the Ethics and Profession Badge Issuer Commission, Luísa Rogério, considers the re-election of Teixeira Cândido as guarantee of the continuity of the struggles of the members of the class, assing that she hopes that some of the wishes will be fulfilled in the next four years.
According to the official, with a dialogue and negotiating posture, many situations will be overcome.
The heads of the Supervisory Board, Margarida Cortez, Deontological Council, Stella Silveira, and the chairman of the General Assembly, António Félix, also took office.
