Lubango - A 30-year-old citizen was arrested, in the southern Huila Province’s capital, Lubango, by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), for false identity, after pretending to be the director of the office of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to circumvent a public manager.
The information was provided to ANGOP this Wednesday, by the SIC-Huíla spokesperson, inspector Segunda Quitumba, stating that the suspect was arrested at nine o'clock on Monday, on the outskirts of the city of Lubango.
He declared that the citizen approached the provincial director of farming and fisheries by telephone, fraudulently presenting himself as the director of the Office of the President of the Republic (Edeltrudes Costa) and requested five tons of fertilizer.
In light of his allegations, explained the inspector, the SIC carried out criminal intelligence work, which resulted in the identification of the man, who was actually a barber, as well as his arrest.
Segunda Quitumba reaffirmed SIC's commitment to fighting crime and assured that legal measures will be taken against anyone who persists in such illicit conduct.
Scams using new technologies are recurrent in Huíla, usually involving the names of members of the government. In 2023, 17 people were arrested for committing such crime.
