Cuito – At least two young men have been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in central Bié province, suspects of committing several robberies on foreign citizens using firearms, the SIC spokesperson Simão Lucas said Friday.
The suspects were arrested on July 30 this year, as part of the anti-crime activities carried out in the region by the SIC and the Criminal Offences Investigation Department (DIIP).
According to the SIC spokesman, the alleged criminals are accused of the crimes of robbery with a firearm and criminal association, taking into account that the two belonged to a criminal network made up of eight individuals who carried out offences in the provinces of Bié, Benguela, Huambo and Huíla.
The police seized two pistols with 12 rounds of ammunition and a motorbike, which was allegedly used to help carry out robberies in broad daylight in the city of Cuito and the surrounding area.
Simão Lucas Lucas added that from the investigations carried out, the group has already stolen more than 12 million kwanzas from expatriate citizens, preferably from commercial establishments, homes, building sites and even on public roads. AS/BAN/MS/DAN/AMP
