Viana - Six thousand five hundred inmates are enrolled in the national penitentiary education subsystem, to attend the 2024/2025 school year.
The information was provided by the provincial director of the Luanda Prison Service, Suzete Aguiar, revealing that the subsystem has 14 schools, with a total of 117 classrooms, and 12 libraries for students from 1st to 12th grade.
The 2024/2025 school year opened last Friday, at the Viana Prison.
According to Suzete Aguiar, education is very important in the process of rehabilitation and social reintegration of prisoners, taking into account the post-completion of sentences.
The official said that prisoners are deprived of family life, but have their rights safeguarded.
Therefore, he explained, the Angolan State will continue to assist these citizens.
Last school year, the subsystem enrolled 5,216 inmates, of which three thousand and 35 were promoted to next grade.
