Luanda - The State Secretary for Media Nuno Caldas Albino has denied the charge of alleged prosecution against journalists in Angola, and said that the professionals are free to exercise their duty.
Nuno Albino stated on the sidelines of the workshop on “Freedom of Speech and other human rights”, promoted by the Angola Media Regulatory Authority (ERCA), that the alleged prosecution against the class, as reported by some journalists, is untrue.
According to him, the activity is performed without harassment, and accused some alternative media to the traditional ones of wantonness
in their contents.
Nuno Caldas Albino stressed that in the last five years, Angola observed improvements in media activities and encouraged the journalists to invest in rigour and responsibility.
He said that despite these great steps in these fields, there is the awareness that more work needs to be done. So the Government is engaged in creating a legal environment conducive to improving the mass media.
Nuno Caldas Albino said that this work will depend on all parties involved in this process to ensure a better level of what is expected from the mass media in Angola.
The State Secretary greeted and congratulated all Angolan journalists on World Press Freedom Day, celebrated on Wednesday, May 3.
