Luanda - The Secretary of State for Public Administration, Amélia Varela, on Tuesday in Luanda, praised the progress made by Angola in terms of compulsory social protection, as a result of the government's efforts to increase the number of insured people.
The Secretary of State made the statement at the presentation of the first Angolan Social Protection Statistics Bulletin, which presents relevant indicators for this sector, which is essential for national development.
Amélia Varela highlighted the creation of 12 new schemes within the framework of compulsory social protection in the period 2018-2022, which corresponds to an implementation level of 600% compared to the five-year target set by the National Development Program.
Among the legal schemes, the official highlighted those for the compulsory social protection of professional athletes, self-employed workers and low-income economic activities.
Amélia Varela recalled that the National Social Security Institute (INSS) has collected more than 17.47 billion kwanzas in four months as part of the compulsory collection process under the Presidential Legislative Decree.
The official said she expected the bulletin to be a useful tool not only for guiding national social protection strategies and policies, but also for consultation by academics, journalists, social partners and other interested parties.
Anselmo Monteiro , CEO of INSS, clarified that the data contained in the Bulletin deal only with basic and mandatory social protection.
"The document provides useful indicators for carrying out studies and will help the government in forecasting both the social and macroeconomic sectors, establishing appropriate policies with the established bulletin. Likewise, it will be important in strengthening foreign investment, since any investor will be able to use it as a means of finding out about the social fabric of the country and the Angolans," he said.
The event was attended by the Secretary of State for Planning, Luís Epalanga, representatives of the United Nations Office, the European Union and the International Labor Organization, among others.
The Angolan Social Protection Statistics Bulletin is an initiative of the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security, in collaboration with the International Labor Organization.
The publication covers the period from 2018 to 2022, the years coinciding with the National Development Plan (PDN 2018-2022), and reflects the progress and challenges of Angola's social protection system.
It not only provides a basis for analyzing the social protection system, but also contributes to Angola's alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular target 1.3.1, which refers to the coverage and extension of social protection.CPM/MCN/TED/AMP
