Luena - More than 7,000 people are being seriously affected by drought and hunger in Bundas municipality, eastern Moxico province, due to the lack of rainfall, the local administrator, Benilson Mbambi, said on Thursday.
According to Mbambi, due to the lack of regular rainfall in the locality, many families are deprived of the precious liquid, resorting to unclean water, which has led to various health problems for the local population.
He added that various humanitarian actions have already been implemented, marked by the distribution of basic supplements to minimize the effects of the drought in the region, which is more than 250 kilometers from the municipal seat of Bundas.
Despite these actions, he said that the population needs more help and that in the coming days manual water pumps to reduce the water deficit in the district will be installed and the distribution of seeds to encourage farming are expected.
To ensure the health of the inhabitants, he said that within the framework of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), a health post has been built, which currently lacks equipment to provide medical assistance to the population, given the various pathological outbreaks in the region.
Located 356 kilometers south of Luena city, the border municipality of Bundas has a population of 69,496 inhabitants (2014 Census), the majority of whom are farmers and fishermen. TC/YD/TED/AMP
