Ramiros - The pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Our Lady Muxima “Nossa Senhora da Muxima”, in the municipality of Quiçama, 130 kilometers from Luanda city, which normally takes place in the first week of September, will be brought forward to 5th, 6th and 7th of August due to the general elections scheduled for the 24th of the same month.
Speaking to Angop on Monday, the rector of the sanctuary, Father Pinto de Melo, said that the pilgrimage will take place under the theme “Mama Muxima in your hands we place the people of Angola”.
He explained that the anticipated pilgrimage will allow the faithful enough time to reflect and dedicate themselves to the electoral campaign, and also be willing to fulfill their duty of citizenship at the polling station, similarly to what happened in 2017.
The village of Muxima was occupied by the Portuguese in 1589, who, 10 years later, built the Fortress and Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Nossa Senhora da Muxima or simply Mamã Muxima).
