Lisbon - Four members of the same family (couple and children) of Angolan nationality, aged between 04, 08, 31 and 34 years old, were found dead at their residence on Tuesday in Vilar Formoso, northern Portugal, from alleged inhalation of carbon monoxide, ANGOP learned.
A source from the Consulate General of Angola in Porto confirmed, on Wednesday, that they are the couple Franclino Fernandes and Joana Baião, and two children identified by José Baião and Artur Baião, respectively.
The case is already being monitored by the Angolan Consulate in Porto and investigated by the Portuguese judicial authorities, to clarify the true causes of the deaths of the Angolan family.
Speaking to SIC Notícias on Wednesday, the commander of the Fire Brigade Francisco Martíns, reported that a stove was found in one of the compartments of the residence, with remains of embers, admitting that it was 'what released carbon monoxide in sufficient quantity to take the lives of these people'.
One of the family members, he emphasized, was the one who gave the alert. 'I called on Saturday and Sunday, but they didn't answer, I thought they would be busy and would return the call. It was only on Monday afternoon, when my son told me that the boys had not gone to school, that I was worried', he said.
The couple Joana and Franclino Fernandes, before moving to Portugal, lived in the municipality of Cazenga, Hoji Ya-Henda, in Luanda. EJM/SEC/DOJ
