Caxito - The Civil Protection and Fire Brigade in Bengo recorded the flooding of 240 plantation fields and 209 homes by the heavy rains that have poured into the municipalities of Bula Atumba, Nambuangongo, Dande and Pango Aluquém from September to November.
Speaking to ANGOP on Tuesday, the firefighters’ spokesperson, Costa Ngunza, said families in the Kirindo and Mussungo neighborhoods are isolated due to the rise in the flow of the Dande River, following the opening of the floodgates at the Mabubas dam.
He added that the collapse of a bridge over the river “Casusulu” that occurred in 2023 has isolated the two villages of Kiba and Muenga, and with the intensity of the rains in the region, the alternative road flooded, causing difficulties in the movement of people and goods.
“We've been warning people not to build along the banks of the Dande river and also in risk zones to avoid danger,” said Costa Ngunza.
He asked for the collaboration of the residents' committees, traditional authorities, and religious and youth associations to promote family counseling actions during this rainy season in the communities for the well-being of the population. MD/CJ/PA/AMP
