Luanda - The National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, on Saturday expressed solidarity with Tanzania in the face of the consequences of the El Nino phenomenon, which caused 155 deaths.
In a message sent to her Tanzanian counterpart, Tulia Ackson, the leader of the Angolan parliament said that Angolan MPs were following the natural disaster caused by El Nino with "great concern".
According to the data, the heavy rains associated with the El Niño climate phenomenon, which led to floods and landslides, caused 155 deaths and destroyed homes, schools and other infrastructure.
"On behalf of the members of the National Assembly, I convey our solidarity and heartfelt sympathy to the people of the United Republic of Tanzania at this time of deep sorrow and dismay," reads the message.
Carolina Cerqueira hopes that the relief and humanitarian support teams will help mitigate the pain and the harmful effects caused to the victims' families and the population.
According to the National Assembly Speaker, a joint action to mitigate the effects of disasters and natural catastrophes, which have led to increased social instability and vulnerability among families, will continue to receive particular attention within the framework of the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum's emergency programs.
