Cuito - The prizes won by the municipalities of central Bié province at the 10th Forum of Angolan Municipalities and Cities (FMCA) could be used to strengthen the Participatory Budget (PB) of the respective localities, ANGOP has learnt.
The prognosis was made this Friday by the administrator of the Andulo municipality, Justino Cassoma Covi, when he pointed out that the municipality's distinction in five categories made it possible to raise 83 million Kwanzas.
He said that a large part of this amount could be adjusted in the municipality's Participatory Budget, whose utilisation plans will have the direct participation of citizens.
Justino Covi, who has been in office for less than a month, emphasised that the awards reflect a commitment to continue working with honesty, clarity and discipline in the management of public affairs.
It should be remembered that the municipality of Andulo won second place in the Citizen Participation and Quality of Public Service category and third place in the Education and Professional Qualification, Security and Public Order and Good Governance, Transparency and Quality of Budget Execution components.
The municipality also came third in the category of Best Municipality in Angola, type A.
In turn, the administrator of the municipality of Nharêa, Neves Bambi, who also won an award, said that the money raised could be used to support the Participatory Budgeting fund, to improve the quality of life of the population.
He also said that the idea is to make each citizen feel the benefits of the prizes, collectively, by building more cranes, classrooms and health centres.
The administrator of the Chitembo municipality, Alexandre José Celestino, with two trophies, which earned him 18 million Kwanzas, said that the awards encourage him to continue doing good work and to strive more and more for better management of public affairs.
Deolinda Belvina Gonçalves, municipal administrator of Camacupa, with three categories, which allowed her to collect 20 million Kwanzas, said that the awards represent the commitment that the local administration has with the population.
The municipality of Camacupa was honoured with the Good Governance, Transparency and Quality of Budget Execution awards.
The municipalities of Cuito, Chinguar and Cunhinga were honoured in one category each (Transport, Mobility and Accessibility), while Catabola won the category of Best Type C Municipality in Angola.
With these awards, the municipality of Catabola received 80 million Kwanzas, Cunhinga eight million, while Cuito and Chinguar were honoured with KZ five million respectively.
The municipality of Cuemba was the only one not to score in this 10th edition of the Forum of Angolan Municipalities and Cities, held in Malanje province.
Each municipality receives 25 million Kwanzas for the Participatory Budget, an amount controlled by a Technical Committee for the Management of the Municipal Budget. LB/BAN/ALH/DAN/DOJ
