Luanda - The National Police (PN) recorded 537 different crimes over the long weekend, resulting in 412 arrests, the police spokesman, Mateus Rodrigues, reported in Luanda on Wednesday.
At a press conference, Mateus Rodrigues said that among the various crimes, 18 were homicides, sexual abuse (10), physical assault (102), robberies (118) and thefts (183), with 326 cases having been solved.
A further 40 crimes involving firearms were recorded in the provinces of Luanda, Huambo, Benguela, Malanje, Lunda-Norte, Cabinda, Zaire, Cuanza-Norte and Cunene.
According to the official, the provinces with the highest crime records are Luanda (202), Huambo (42) and Benguela (26).
Mateus Rodrigues explained that the most relevant cases that occurred during the period in question include homicides involving firearms recorded in Cuanza-Norte, drug poisoning in Zaire, abortions and vehicle accidents in Uíge.
Regarding road accidents, the official explained that the police recorded 135 accidents, with 22 deaths and 218 injuries.
He added that the PN also seized more than 25 million kwanzas, 250 wooden beams, 22,625 litres of fuel and 21 firearms. The long weekend was the result of the 4th February holiday, the Day of the Beginning of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, celebrated on Tuesday.
