Luanda - Ninety-four various crimes were recorded by the National Police, from the 24th to the 25th of this month, in Angola, 67 fewer compared to the same period in 2023, Commissioner Orlando Bernardo said today (Wednesday).
The director of Public Security and Operations of the National Police was speaking at a press conference, aimed at taking stock of Christmas security, which involves the deployment of 80,000 personnel in the country.
The commissioner highlighted that, compared to 2023, this year there was a low crime rate.
“The transition from December 24th to 25th was characterized by an environment of social peace that made the public security situation across the country stable, safe and peaceful”, he informed.
According to the commissioner, the provinces with the highest incidence were Luanda, with 32 crimes, eight fewer than the previous period, Uíge with nine (five fewer), Benguela with seven (same as the previous year) and Malanje with six (four fewer).
He stated that of the total number of crimes recorded in the last 24 hours, only two were committed using firearms, being an offense to physical integrity and a robbery, which occurred on public roads and inside a farm, in the provinces of Luanda and Cuanza-Norte.
In the accident rate sector, Orlando Bernardo highlighted that 33 road accidents were recorded, three fewer than the previous period, which resulted in seven deaths, three more than last year, and 58 injuries, 12 more than in 2023.
The Police Forces and Operational Services of the Ministry of the Interior involved in ensuring the festive season, arrested 67 individuals, of which nine were in flagrante delicto. 18 individuals were also arrested for crimes of qualified robbery, motorcycle theft, qualified fraud, participation in a fight, trafficking, alteration of prohibited weapons and ammunition and speculation in taxi prices.
He explained that during the operation, three vehicles, eight cell phones, nine 12-kilogram butane gas cylinders, six motorcycles, as well as narcotics (Liamba) and five thousand 150 liters of fuel were seized.
The director said that in the penitentiary sector the situation is also stable, with 69 citizens entering and 45 leaving. Another 706 were hospitalized for various pathologies.
He mentioned that the police carried out more than seven thousand patrols, including cars, walking and motorized in places with the highest crime rate. AMC/OHA/DOJ
