Uíge - The Provincial Command of the National Police in the province of Uíge reaffirmed on Tuesday (15) the limitation on the number of passengers in public and private transport, to avoid traffic accidents caused by overcrowding.
The measure determines that three-wheeled motorbikes, known as "kupapatas", cannot carry more than 5 people, while Canter vans are limited to a maximum of 10 passengers.
However, the rules have been constantly violated, which led the authorities to intensify inspections, according to the spokesperson for the provincial police command, Freitas Zama.
The officer also added that the Provincial Govt reinforced the number of buses on the Uíge/Quitexe route, the most used by farmers.
Three-wheeled motorcycles cannot be allowed to carry 10 to 15 passengers, he warned.
Dissatisfied with this measure, a group of farmers expressed their worries on Tuesday (15) morning with the intensification of the traffic blitz recently carried out by the National Police.
Their worries are related to the impact of the traffic blitz on the vehicles and motorbikes used to transport farmers to their working fields.
The farmers say that the situation has been worsened by the increase in transport prices, which have risen from Akz 500 to 700 (USD 1 = Akz 912,6) per trip in recent weeks, in addition to the poor state of the access roads to the fields and the lack of adequate transport options.
