Luanda - The spirit of conviviality, zeal and dedication to work shown by journalist José Carlos Gomes, who died on the 22nd of this month from an illness, was highlighted Tuesday in the Province of Luanda by the National Police.
The remains of the former Angola Press Agency (ANGOP) journalist were buried at Santa Ana cemetery, in Luanda, in the presence of relatives, colleagues and friends.
In a condolence note ANGOP had access to, the National Police states that José Gomes leaves a great legacy for his profession, adding its deepest condolences to the family in mourning, media professionals and the ANGOP board of directors.
The journalist died at the Cardinal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento Cardio-Pulmonary Diseases Hospital Complex, in the country’s capital.
José Carlos Gomes, son of Conceição Gomes and Eugénia Coimbra, was born on 8 August 1964 in Luanda.
He joined ANGOP in September 1987, at the Huíla Provincial Delegation, and was appointed to the post of Editor-in-Chief of that delegation in 1992.
In 2000 he was transferred to ANGOP headquarters in Luanda. He was then appointed Municipal Delegate of Ingombota in 2003, Municipal Correspondent of Belas in 2019 and Coordinator of the Ramiros Office in 2022, before retiring on 11 August 2023.
During his career, he has benefited from political, ideological and journalistic training in Cuba, at the "Nico Lopes" Higher School of the Communist Party of Cuba, at the Provincial School of the Party, Capitão Orlando Olo PAntoja, as well as a training in the José Martí International Institute of Latin American Journalism in Havana.
At the same time, he did an internship at the Latin Press Agency, at the National Information Agency (AIN), at Grama journal, Cubanvision television, at Cuban Journalist´s Union (UPRAC), among other media outlets.
