Huambo – The National Police (PN) have seized a total of 20,800 US dollars in counterfeit money in central Huambo province, and arrested a 51-year old citizen, who tried to introduce it into the financial circuit, the Police said in a statement Monday.
It occurred at a time when the perpetrator sought to exchange 20,800 from a citizen, who, after several negotiations and upon realizing that he was involved with a fraudster, called the National Police.
The perpetrator and the respective amounts will be forwarded to the Public Prosecutor's Office for necessary legal procedures.
The last seizure of fake foreign currency occurred in April 2022, when the Security forces detained, in this region of the country, five citizens who were trying to introduce 50 million US dollars into the foreign exchange market.
Huambo province has an estimated population of 2,700,000 inhabitants, distributed across 11 municipalities and 37 communes.
