Lubango - An alleged disagreement over the custody of two children and the division of property was the cause that led the 3rd deputy chief of the National Police in southern Huíla province to murder his ex-wife Monday, and further attempted suicide.
According to the commander of the 8th police station in Mapunda, 1st deputy chief, Alzira Íntya, the 30-year old man is suspected of shooting his wife, aged 31, in the back, while the alleged murderer suffered four wounds, which the police are investigating, one in the neck, two in the chest and one in the groin, but survived after surgical interventions.
At the crime scene, the police found the couple lying face down, both still showing vital signs requesting medical assistance, but due to the delay of the emergency services one of the neighbors took them to Lubango Central Hospital, however the woman died on the way.
The police remain uncertain whether it was in fact the police officer who fired the shots at himself, despite being the owner of the weapon used, so forensic investigation is underway to clear the facts.
Citing family sources, the Police Commander said the couple was separated for more than eight months, but the custody of the children and the division of assets led to disagreements between them, which culminated in the death of the woman.
According to the medical report, his situation is stable and the police are awaiting medical advice before questioning him and carrying out the appropriate procedures. EM/MS/DAN/AMP
