Luanda - Angola recorded a decrease in the crime rate during the transition from 2024 to 2025, with the registration of 137 crimes, therefore 17 fewer compared to the previous period (2023/2024), the director of Public Security and Operations of the National Police, Orlando Bernardo, informed on Wednesday, in Luanda.
He stated that 184 people were arrested, 46 of whom were in flagrant crime and 89 after investigation.
When speaking regarding the New Year's Eve events, the official commissioner said that the provinces with the highest record of criminal incidents were Luanda with 44, nine more than in the previous period, Bié with 16 (plus eight), Huíla with nine (plus one) and Malanje with eight (minus one).
He also added that there were six homicides, one more than in the period from December 31, 2023 to January 1, 2024, three crimes of sexual assault, one more compared to the previous season, 26 offenses to physical integrity (11 fewer), 30 robberies (the same number), and 52 thefts (three more).
Regarding road accidents, Orlando Bernardo highlighted that there were 28 accidents, 16 fewer than in the same period last year, which resulted in three deaths, two fewer, and 29 injuries with 30 in the same period.
Regarding the Civil Protection and Fire Service, there were 55 incidents, 12 more than in the same period last year, resulting in 10 deaths, six due to drowning, one due to a falling tree, two due to suicide and one for road accidents.
The Foreign Migration Service (SME) registered the entry of 5,315 citizens, the departure of 6,444 and the administrative expulsion of 31 other individuals.
Orlando Bernardo highlighted that five groups that dedicated themselves to robbery activities were partially dismantled, three more compared to the same period last year.
During the same period, three firearms, a vehicle and 7,200 liters of fuel were seized.
