Luanda – The Angolan government has responded positively to the guidelines and recommendations issued by the International Labor Organization (ILO), within the framework of the Actions to Eradicate Child Labor.
The information was disclosed by the administrator for the Training area of the National School of Administration and Public Policy (ENAPP), Édmio Fernando, during the opening of a training session on “Eradicating Child Labor”.
The training session aimed at youth associations and students, expected to increase the knowledge of those involved in the national child protection system to prevent and combat child labor.
Édmio Fernando highlighted the implementation of the National Action Plan for the Eradication of Child Labour (PANETI) 2021-2025, which prioritizes the implementation of immediate and integrated measures to promote children's rights, including through the prevention and eradication of child labor and its worst forms by 2025.
The National Action Plan for the Eradication of Child Labor (PANETI) was approved by Presidential Decree on September 29, which creates the Commission for the Prevention and Eradication of Child Labor.
It contains effective measures and integrated actions to be implemented by the year 2025, with a view to guiding the work of the various agents in the practical application of children's rights, as a way of eradicating child labor in its worst forms.
According to ILO Conventions 138 and 182: Child labor is a work performed by children and adolescents below the minimum age for admission to employment/work established in the country.
For work to be considered “child labor”, a series of factors must be assessed, such as the age of the child, the type and hours of work carried out, as well as the conditions in which it is performed.
Data disclosed by the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security in 2023, said Angola registered around 1,894 cases of child labor through the SOS-Child line, reported most frequently in the provinces of Bié, Lunda Sul, Luanda and Zaire. LIN/PA/AMP
