Ondjiva - The United Nations (UN), through its Fund for Population (UNFPA) agency, Saturday donated 2,100 female personal hygiene kits to the government of Cunene province in Ondjiva to be given to Angolan women in rural areas of this part of the country.
The donation of these kits to Cunene is part of a project called Emergency Fund 262, which began in Cunene province last October and ends in December of this year.
Each kit consists of a bucket, toothpaste, washing powder, toothbrush, three undergarments, a cloth, a slipper and intimate sanitary pads (modex).
The project also includes awareness-raising actions on measures to prevent sexually transmitted diseases, the importance and methods of family planning for family health and gender-based violence.
The Deputy Governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure of southern Cunene province, Édio Gentil José, who received the kits on behalf of the Cunene government, said that the kits came at the right time when world faces the Covid-19 pandemic and they will improve the dignity and personal hygiene of rural women.
Edio Gentil Jose stressed that most women in Cunene live in rural areas and the initiative meets their empowerment.
