Luanda - The United Nations (UN) resident coordinator in Angola, Zahira Virani, reaffirmed the commitment of this international organization to support the Angolan Government in actions related to the promotion of women, to promote peace and security.
The coordinator was speaking at the training session of the intersectoral group on the 2nd generation national action plan for women, peace and security, held Friday in Luanda.
Zahira Virani said that the United Nations intends to give full support to the Government in initiatives involving women.
'Next year (2025), the United Nations will celebrate the 50th anniversary of resolution 13/25 linked to women, peace and security, in order to promote peace and security,' the diplomat stressed.
On the implementation of Security Council resolutions related to women, peace and security, he said that its responsibility lies primarily with Member States and the United Nations system, in partnership with civil society organizations and international and regional security institutions.
The Secretary of State for Family and Promotion of Women, Alcina Kindanda, emphasized that this training action on UN resolution 13/2025 related to women, peace and security, aims to respond to the commitment that Angola has made with its implementation.
He said that in terms of proposals, for this new training cycle, Angola brings the revision of the Domestic Violence Law, in force for more than 20 years, and which does not adapt to the new Penal Code, among other realities.
She added that it also brings the fight against domestic violence, empowerment of women and girls, among other proposals.
According to the official, the national (NAP) and regional (PAR) action plans on resolution 13/25 serve as tools to guide the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and have the potential to positively impact peace processes and sustain peace.
Angola developed its first NAP in 2017, for the period 2017-2020, which determined that peace is closely linked to equality between women and men and sustainable development.
For her, it is important that women play a role in conflict prevention and resolution and peacebuilding.
The training lasts one day and brings together representatives of the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women, the UN, civil society, among others. JAM/OHA/DOJ
