Catabola – Fourteen years later, the Angolan Government resumed, on Monday, the rehabilitation works on the National Road (EN) 250, on the Cunje/Catabola/Camacupa section, in the province of Bié, covering a length of 71.80 kilometers.
Today, the Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Gregório dos Santos, relaunched the work, which could be completed within two years.
The project began in 2010. At the time, only 18 kilometers of road were paved, up to the town of Belchior, still in the territory of Cuito.
The restart of the project was authorized by Presidential Order nº 308/23 of December 22nd.
The work was awarded to the construction company OMATAPALO, with a global value of 68 billion 356 million 834 thousand and 590 kwanzas. It will generate 630 jobs.
In the act of consignment, minister Carlos Gregório dos Santos asked the construction company to speed up the work so that the road section is completed and delivered to the beneficiaries within the established time.
“These populations have already waited too long, and I thank you in advance for your patience. It is known that this work began in 2010, and, for various reasons, it has not yet been completed. But this time, it’s definitive,” he assured.
He said it is the government's intention to rehabilitate the entire section of the country's eastern corridor, which work could, in the future, also extend to the Munhango commune, in the municipality of Cuemba.
To connect the provinces of Bié and Moxico by road, the minister said that at the moment there is another project that, from Moxico, will be responsible for the construction of the Luena/Munhango road, an extension of 156 kilometers, the work of which is in the geotechnical and geological study.
The governor of Bié, Pereira Alfredo, foresees, for the municipalities in this corridor, the emergence of greater public and private investments, in the fields of agriculture, tourism and other related areas.
People call for deadlines to be met
The populations of the municipalities of Catabola, Camacupa and Cuemba, who traveled to the commune of Chipeta, to witness the act of relaunching the work, defended greater speed of work, to honor contractual deadlines.
Speaking to ANGOP, the pastor of the Church of the Brothers in Angola (IEIA) in Catabola, Eusébio Grilo, said he expected greater speed of the works, due to the importance of the section in boosting the province's economy, given the existence of large farms, especially in the municipality of Camacupa.
For his part, the pastor of the Evangelical Congregational Church of Angola (IECA), Fernando Jamba Isaac, highlighted the need to honor execution deadlines, as the movement of people has not been easy.
Likewise, professor Daniel Correia, from the municipality of Camacupa, foresees several benefits in the lives of the population, especially for some teachers who work in the municipality and have a permanent residence in Cuito.
He said that travel time will be short, and for many teachers, as is his case, there will no longer be the need to live far from their family, who reside in the provincial capital.
“Driving along this road has been very challenging, starting with the lack of public transport. because of the poor condition of the road”, he highlighted.
For farmer Sabino Currie, who operates in the municipality of Camacupa, once the road is completed, the benefit will be greater, as it will make life easier for the entire population, especially rural men, who have had great difficulties in the drainage process. of the products.
In turn, the deputy administrator of Camacupa for the Technical Area, Jacinto Tchipa, considered it necessary to prioritize the quality of tar and other materials, so that the road lasts longer, stressing that it will be very useful for the agricultural sector and the manufacturing industry that you want to start.
In addition to this sector, Jacinto Tchipa also highlighted great gains in education, due to the ease of mobility of teachers and students. LB/PLB/DOJ
