Moçâmedes - The Angolan is committed to the materialisation of public policies leading to the full development of young people, with emphasis on the implementation of economic guideline programmes, the State secretary for Youth, Francisco Boaventura Chitapa said Friday in Moçâmedes.
Speaking at the celebration of the National Youth Day hosted in Namibe, Chitapa stressed that these actions aim to facilitate the integration of young people in the labour market, through vocational training, with the consequent promotion of self-employment, youth entrepreneurship, promotion of cooperatives and financial education.
"The Youth Social Guideline Programme aims to improve the quality of life of young people, in order to prevent the emergence of risk behaviour that affect them, such as delinquency, early pregnancy, alcoholism, prostitution, immediacy and sexually transmitted diseases", Chitapa said.
The official acknowledged that in recent times young people have been facing "great" challenges, especially regarding access to basic social services, such as ,health, education, housing and employment, a scenario that worries the government.
In relation to housing, Chitapa said the Executive continues to be committed to guaranteeing the implementation of the 20% quota for young people in all public housing projects, which has enabled many to obtain their own homes , a process that so far benefited more than 8,000 young people in 14 housing projects all over the country.
Besides the existing policies, the secretary of State for Youth pointed out that the government will work on infrastructures and land plot allocation for personnal construction, stressing that the solution to the problems of the youths involves an articulation between the different ministerial departments.
Boaventura Chitapa considered April 14 a "memorable" date that honours “the best strategic resource of the country, the youth, constituting therefore an important milestone of reaffirmation and recognition of their role as an indispensable factor for the country’s development”.
This year's April 14, Chitapa said, is being celebrated under the motto "Patriotic, Supportive and Evolved Youth", which helps to reflect on the need to return to the origins as advocated by the first president of Angola, António Agostinho Neto.
