Moçâmedes – At least 971 cases of domestic violence have been reported by the Provincial Office for Social Action, Family and Gender Equality during 2023 in Angola’s southern Namibe province.
The information was disclosed by the director of the Social Action, Family and Gender Equality office in Namibe, Sandra Somene, adding that in 2022, the province registered 286 cases of domestic violence.
According to Somene, the increase in cases is the result of raising awareness campaigns in the communities for people to report domestic violence.
Of the cases reported, there were 263 of child labor exploitation, 130 of lack of food support, 13 of paternity denial, negligence, sexual abuse, both with 34, 253 physical violence, 13 custody disputes, two double homicides, among others.FH/FA/OHA/AMP
