Luanda - The Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World (Tocoísta) is running its First Extraordinary Ecclesial Congress, with focus on reunification, taking place from July 26 to 30 in Luanda.
The event is part of the celebrations of the 74th anniversary of the founding of the church bringing together hundreds of delegates based in Angola and the diaspora to discuss the best strategies for finding viable solutions that can put an end to tripartite recognition.
The congress runs under the motto "Rethinking the Church of Christ, Evaluating Norms and Unifying Thoughts" and aims, essentially, to ensure the reunification of its faithful.
Dom Afonso Nunes, Bishop of the Tocoist Church, said the event will serve to rethink the church, for an efficient religion in the framework of today’s challenges.
Dom Afonso Nunes added that the church needs to respond efficiently to the problems affecting society, such as the moralisation of families.
According to Afonso Nunes, the congress will discuss aspects regarding the viability or not of some precepts, having reaffirmed that the reform in the church will continue.
Attending the event, the vice-president of the ruling MPLA, Luísa Damião, said she acknowledges the work of the Tocoist Church towards the moralisation of society and socio-economic development.
The politician encouraged Tocoist worshipers to continue transmitting the message for the retrieval of ethical, cultural and moral values of the society, having also advised churches to continue to develop their role of moralising society, underlining that Angola will continue the development path where everyone is called to contribute.
Tocoist Church is a religious institution of African origin, based on the Holy Bible, and is a privileged partner of the Angolan State in the materialisation of social actions. DJ/ART/Amp/jmc
