Luena - The First Lady of Angola, Ana Dias Lourenço, inaugurated Tuesday a centre for young girls in eastern Moxico province with capacity for 96 people, called "Santa Isabel".
The integrated project, which belongs to the Catholic Church, was set up on a total area of 100 square meters, with funding from oil company Total Energies and its partners.
The facility, which will house children and teenagers from seven to 12 years old, has several rooms, including an administrative area, a dining room, a study room and six dormitories.
On the occasion, the First Lady highlighted the importance of the project, underlining that it will contribute significantly to the empowerment of women and serve as a catalyst for families to fight poverty and promote gender equality.
Ana Dias Lourenço called for the involvement of the various social and civil organizations, in order to contribute with their actions to the sustainability of the home.
The bishop of the Diocese of Luena, Dom Martin Lasart, praised the gesture made by the sponsoring companies, adding that the project will contribute positively to women's education and training in a province with a high illiteracy rate and a lack of school infrastructure.
The First Lady also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a school called "Liceu Eiffel" in this region of the country.
The province of Moxico has more than 243 public, public-private and private schools with a gross workforce of 7,277 teachers, for more than 300,000 students, distributed among the different education subsystems.
Located in the east of Angola , Moxico has an area of 223,23 square kilometers and more than one million inhabitants, whose capital is Luena city that is home to more than half of the population. ISAU/TC/TED/AMP
