Luanda - The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media, Mário Oliveira, reaffirmed Friday in Luanda the sector's commitment to promote gender equality, so as to secure greater development and equity in the institutions.
Speaking to the press at the end of an audience with the coordinator of the Forum of Women Journalists for Gender Equality, Milena da Costa, the minister said training and capacity building for media professionals will continue to be promoted, along with empowerment of women in the sector.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the varied actions for the benefit of rural women that has been carried out by the women’s organization, which has helped to solve some of the problems of these communities.
Milena da Costa on her turn, welcomed the meeting as it allowed her to address issues related to the empowerment of women in the media and that applications are now open for the 4th edition of the Forum Journalism Prize, which will have the institutional support of the incumbent ministry.
There are two categories available for this award, which will be held in December, namely "Career" and "Best report".
Milena da Costa added that this year the theme of the report would be "Sustainable community development", calling on journalists to take part in the initiative.
The Forum of Women Journalists for Gender Equality was founded in 2009 with the aim of taking action to combat domestic and gender-based violence, as well as seeking respect for women's rights.
The organization brings together women journalists from public and private media outlets.JAM/MCN/AMP
