Cuito – The minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, guaranteed on Tuesday that in the near future Cuito, chief town of the central Bié Province, will get a regular supply of drinking water, following the acquisition of three pumps and other equipment.
Cuito Municipality has three systems for collection, treatment and distribution of water, but they supply only eight hours a day because they have been operating on a limited basis for two years.
The said systems are Cuquema I, Cuquema II and Cunje communes, which by 2020 were providing regular drinking water to more than 30,000 homes.
With the purchase of the replacement material, the water supply will increase to 20 hours a day.
Speaking to journalists during his two-day visit to Bié, the official highlighted that in the coming days his ministerial department will acquire the equipment to restore it to full working order, aiming to uninterruptedly supply water to populations.
On the other hand, he announced as well the expansion of more than 15,000 new home connections to be done in a short while with funding from the World Bank.
Currently 5,000 home connections are being made in the neighbourhoods of Cantíflas, Cangote, Catemo, Cangalo, Sousa, Caluco and Chissindo.
Among other places, the minister visited Catabola area where he analyzed the power supply plan, and Camacupa Municipality where he visited the construction works for the Cunje 1 hydroelectric plant.
