Luanda - The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media, Mário Oliveira, on Wednesday encouraged ANGOP to continue its mission as a “source of information” for other news organizations, in order to reduce the growing worldwide scenario of fake news, disinformation, manipulation and sensationalism.
In a congratulatory message to ANGOP's 49th anniversary marked on October 30, the minister said the agency has played an important and relevant role in Angola's cultural and social affirmation, both at home and abroad, as an independent, sovereign country that promotes peace, sustainable development and the well-being of its people.
The minister added that its challenging and regular task of informing and educating has contributed significantly to the formation and affirmation of national and international public opinion, guaranteeing citizens the constitutional right to inform and be informed, as well as serving as a source of information for the different media.
Mário Oliveira stressed the attention and support that the Angolan government has provided to ANGOP for it to continue its essential role in the cultural formation of the Angolan population, in stimulating national production, raising patriotism and rescuing and preserving moral values.
Agência Angola Press, ANGOP, is Angola’s public news company, whose aim is to collect, process and distribute, on an exclusive basis, both in Angola and abroad, news based on objective information on national and international current affairs.
ANGOP was created in July 1975 under the name of Agência Nacional Angola Press (ANAP).
In the beginning, its work was distributed in the form of a printed bulletin, until, on October 30 of the same year, it launched its first telegraphic dispatch.
In 1991, it opted to broadcast its work 24 hours a day and also introduced editorial and technical innovations.CPM/MCN/AMP
