Luena - The Boma Prison, the largest in the eastern region of the country, was inaugurated Wednesday in Luena, Moxico Province, by the minister of the Interior, Eugénio Laborinho, in an event witnessed by provincial governor Ernesto Muangala.
The aforementioned infrastructure, located 30 kilometers east of Luena, has the capacity to house 816 inmates, being equipped and equipped with modern technological means to accommodate inmates with dignity.
Built on a total area of 24 thousand square meters, it has a school, medical center, administrative area, kitchen, a multi-purpose field and an area for sports, whose work began in 2013.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister of the Interior, Eugénio Laborinho, highlighted that the Boma prison will play an important role in decreasing overcrowding in the region's prisons, particularly the Luena district, which is overcrowded, with 406 inmates, of whom 194 convicted.
In his work agenda in the province of Moxico, Eugénio Laborinho also inaugurated a structure for the Criminal Investigation Services (SIC), a Police medical center, and the Provincial Command of Civil Protection and Fire Services.
On the occasion, he said that the aforementioned infrastructures will play an important role in maintaining public security in the province.
Citizen Samuel Lucas, who is serving a sentence in that establishment, highlighted the new penitentiary unit, given the conditions it offers, having requested the improvement of the road that gives access to the place to facilitate the mobility of families. MT/TC/YD/TED/jmc
