Luanda – Angola’s new General Labour Law should come into force in January 2024, said Tuesday in the Province of Luanda the minister of Public Administration, Employment and Social Security, Teresa Dias.
Speaking on the sidelines of the closing of the vocational training year, the minister said that the law was approved by the parliament in May this year and it is in the process of being published by the National Printing Press.
"We're going to put pressure on the National Printing Press to publish it in the Official Gazette," said the minister.
She informed that after being published in the Official Gazette, there will be a period of publicity and meetings with partners to pass on the message of the ratio of the most problematic issues, so that managers can apply them consistently in their daily work.
Teresa Dias said that work has been done to ensure that the law has "a major impact" on workers' lives.
The General Labour Law, an initiative of the Head of the State, reintroduces a number of rules cancelled by Law no. 2/00 of 11 February and introduces a number of changes, most notably the reinforcement of personality rights.
The document includes modern aspects like the Open-Ended Contract as the norm, additional maternity leave (from three months to an optional four months), the broadening of disciplinary measures, mobility of workers within the same group of companies and teleworking, as well as the re-establishment of the criteria for setting additional remuneration, determining indemnities and compensation, among other new features.
