Luena - The government has said it intends to put an end to current blackouts in Luena city through the conclusion of the solar energy park system and hydroelectric and thermal power stations synchronization, the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos has said.
According to the Secretary of State, the electricity system in the province of Moxico, especially in Luena, is undergoing a redefinition of operational procedures to eliminate the shortfall in electricity supply.
Speaking to the press at the end of a visit to the region's energy equipment, the official did not specify dates for the end of the “blackouts”, but promised that the situation would be overcome “soon”.
Arlindo Carlos said that during normal hours the city has been consuming an average of 14 megawatts, while during the peak period, from 6pm to 10pm, there is a shortfall of megawatts.
“The existing problem is not a seven-headed beast, in fact it's a technical problem that there is already a solution to overcome,” said the Secretary of State.
The official added that the Photovoltaic Energy Park, inaugurated in May of this year, has brought other benefits to the province and the country, reducing operating costs and saving fuel.
Luena city has an installed capacity of 53 MW supplied by the Photovoltaic Energy Park with a capacity of 26,906 MW, the Tchihumbwe-Dala hydroelectric dam (12.4 MW), the Hyundai thermal power station (4.4 MW) and WARTSILA with 10 MW available. LTY/TC/YD/TED/AMP
