Luanda - Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women Promotion (MASFAMU) expressed Monday concern about the growing increase in cases of mine accidents in the country, killing members of several families.
Available data show that last weekend there were two accidents with mines, which resulted in the death of 3 children and two adults.
The incidents occurred as a result of negligence and disrespect for the signs of the still mined areas.
The two accidents were recorded in the provinces of central Bié and southern Cunene provinces.
According to a note from MASFAMU, two victims tried to open an unexploded ordnance, in order to extract “mercury”, resulting in its detonation, while three triggered an anti-tank mine in a mined and signaled area.
The government department reports that it is following with concern the increase in accidents involving mines and other unexploded ordnance, all over the country, where the main victims are children.
In view of the two accidents, MASFAMU reinforces the appeal for care in the handling of foreign objects, especially metals.
In 2021, the Angolan authorities recorded the death of 26 people, victims of Mina accidents.
