Luanda - The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS), Mário Oliveira, on Monday in Luanda, defended the collaboration between journalists from the southern region of Africa, for greater international promotion of journalistic work.
'It is imperative that Angolan journalists seek ways to overcome these barriers, for the international promotion of their documentaries and reports and to promote more effective and informative coverage of SADC from Angola,' he said.
The minister was speaking at the ceremony to award the certificate of the SADC Journalism Award 2024, to journalist Hernâni Correia, from Public Television of Angola (TPA), who won second place with the report 'Trade between Angola and DRC, on the border of Tchicolondo'.
Mário Oliveira stressed that one of the ways Angolan journalists are successful in the southern region is to overcome language challenges, knowledge about the organization and the region, as well as greater regional collaboration between professionals.
The minister argued that it is necessary to improve journalism aligned with 'the natural potential of the lands and people of Angola', fueled by the interest of Angolan youth.
According to Mário Oliveira, this alignment will continue to demonstrate a development journalism that strives for the natural values that Angola must promote, preserve and protect for the common good and the satisfaction of future generations.
'These matters deserve greater attention from our collective gaze as journalists, without neglecting our responsibility as citizens,' he stressed.
He considered it essential that all SADC member countries promote regional integration in all aspects, from geopolitical, political and economic mutual aid, to commercial, social and cultural, as well as scientific and technological exchanges.
For this reason, he continued, it is vital that Angolans do their part by highlighting the initiatives, projects and undertakings that Angola is developing for an increasingly deeper integration into SADC.
To this end, the minister considered it essential to understand the relevance of certain facts to promote Angola, publicizing the country in order to attract interest, partnership and investment.
Mário Oliveira also highlighted the diversity of Angola's potential that Angolan journalists can explore within their creativity.
Among the potentialities, the minister mentioned the Lobito corridor, the energy sector, regional tourism and trade integration.
In his opinion, in this way Angolan journalists will be moving towards a journalism of development that will be appreciated by all, inside and outside Angola.
The SADC Journalism Award was established in 1996 to recognize and stimulate the work of media professionals who contribute to the objectives of integration and development of the region. AMC/OHA/DOJ
