Luanda – At least 12.1 million people is the estimated number of the employed population in Angola, according to the report for the second quarter of this year by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
The report to which ANGOP had access on Monday, of this number, about 6.047 million are men and 6.061 million are women, aged over 18 years.
INE estimates that the employment rate was 61.6% with the rural area being higher than the urban area, while the unemployment rate for men is around 63.9% and 59.5% for women.
The youth employment rate is at 37.8%, with a slight difference between men at 36.7% and women at 38.9%.
However, the data indicate that age groups ranging from 35 to 44 and 45 to 54 years of age concentrate the largest group of employed people.
Data from the Employment Survey in Angola indicate that, in the period under analysis, the employed population recorded an increase of 2.9%, corresponding to 340,636 people employed.
This indicator represents a monthly average of around 113,545 people employed, in the formal and informal sectors, whose youth employment rate increased by 7.9 percentage points compared to the previous quarter.
During this period, the population working in production for their own consumption increased by 3.8 percentage points.
Unemployment
In this segment, the young unemployed population was estimated at around 5.7 million people, 2.6 million and 381 are men and 3.1 million and 932 are women.
The unemployment rate in the young population was estimated at 32.3%, being higher for women at 34.2% compared to men, which is 30.2%.
The unemployment rate is 0.2 percentage points, which corresponds to a variation of 0.5%.
Active population
The population which is economically active was estimated at 17.8 million people, of which around 8.6 million are men and 9.2 million are women.
The population's activity rate was estimated at 91.0%, where that of men was 91.6% and 90.4% for women, with an indicator of activity in the urban area at 90.5% being lower than the rural one at 92.1%.
The economically active population increased by 2.6% compared to the previous quarter.
The activity rate of the young population stands at 91.0%, having increased by 2.1 percentage points compared to the previous quarter.
The activity rate of men increased by 2.1, while for women it is at 2.0 percentage points.
Inactive population
In the second quarter of this year, the young inactive population was estimated at one around 1.777 million people, of which 795,712 are men and 981,794 are women.
The data points to a reduction of 16.5 percentage points in the inactive population, which resulted in a 2.9% increase in the employed population and a 2.1% increase in the unemployed population compared to the first quarter.
The inactivity rate of the young population was 9.0 percent, being higher in urban areas (9.5%) than in rural areas (7.9%).
This indicator presents higher values in the age groups of 65 and over, with 37.6% 55-64 years old 13.0 and young people aged 15-24 years old, representing 13.2 percentage points.
The inactive population aged 15 or over decreased by 16.5% compared to the previous quarter, with inactivity rates for men decreasing by 1.9 and for women it decreased by 1.8 points.
In urban and rural areas, there was a decrease of 2.7 and 0.6 percentage points, compared to the first quarter of 2024. SJ/OHA/MRA/DOJ
