Luena – At least 120 computer technicians of different categories will be responsible for carrying out the General Population and Housing Census in eastern Moxico province to take place from September 19, 2024.
According to the head of the provincial services of the National Statistics Institute (INE), José Januário, 96 of these technicians will be deployed in the communes, 16 in the municipal centers and eight in the regional category.
Januario said that 2,389 field agents have been appointed for data collection in the country's largest province, with a total area of 223, 23 square kilometers and that logistical conditions have been created for the census process to be carried out successfully.
A seminar has been held in the province to train the leaders of various social organizations on the importance of this national event.
Moxico province has around 1.2 million inhabitants, nine municipalities and an area of 223,023 square kilometers (the largest in Angola).
It is bordered to the north by Lunda-Sul province, to the east by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia, to the south by Cuando-Cubango and to the west by the province of Bié.
The first population census after National Independence was carried out in 2014. At the time, the country had 28.4 million inhabitants (more than 750,000 in Moxico). TC/YD/DAN/DAN/AMP
