Lubango - A study by the Faculty of Economics of the University Mandume Ya Ndemufayo (UMN) reveals that, at the level of Huila province, the municipality of Lubango has the lowest incidence of multidimensional poverty and Cacula the largest.
The study, carried out by the Business and Exchange Office (GEI) of the Faculty of Economics, found that 46 percent of the 931,703 inhabitants of the provincial capital (Lubango) live in multidimensional poverty, while Cacula has 98 percent of its 134,836 inhabitants.
The study, conducted through a field survey by a team of economics graduates and UNDP experts, from March 2019 to May 2020, indicates that the remaining 12 municipalities of Huila have a situation of multidimensional poverty in one average of 60%.
The data were revealed today by the coordinator of the GEI of the Economics Faculty of UMN, of Huíla and Namibe province, Hernâni Porcel da Silva, during the presentation of the results of the survey, on the "Role of the Development of Professional Skills in Promoting Employment in Angola - Case study in Huíla province.
On that occasion he noted that the economic and social situation of Huíla was affected by the negative growth that had been seen at the national level, limited by job creation, with the real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contracting by 2.6 percent in 2016, to 0.1% in 2017 and 1.2% in 2018.
