Luanda - The book of the Angolan writer João Melo entitled "Angola is Wherever I Plant My Field", is among the 21 best African books of 2023.
According to a publication by the magazine "African Arguments", ANGOP has learnt, the book translated from Portuguese into English is part of a collection of 18 humorous short stories that "unite postmodernism, post-colonial realities and the history of Angola".
Released by Editora Iskanchi Press, the work is a translated version of the original title.
João Melo is author of several other books namely “the serial killer and other laughable stories “and “Children of the Homeland ", among other works.
Winner of the 2009 National Prize for Culture and the Arts, in the literature category, João Melo has works published in Angola, Portugal, Brazil, Italy and Cuba.
He also has poems and short stories published in various anthologies, magazines and literary websites in English, French, German, Arabic and Mandarin.
A founding member of the Union of Angolan Writers (UEA) and the Angolan Academy of Letters, João Melo was a member of the National Assembly (Parliament) and a government official in 2019.
Born in 1955 in Luanda, Aníbal João da Silva Melo has directed various public and private media outlets.
He is a graduate in Social Communication and a master's degree in Communication and Culture in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), currently he divides his life between Luanda, Lisbon, Houston and Washington. EH/IZ/AMP
