Soyo – At least 5,587 households in four communes of Soyo municipality, northern Zaire province, will start benefiting from the Social Cash Transfer Program (Kwenda) in the next few days.
To this end, the process of community and institutional validation of these households has been underway since Monday several communes namely, Mangue Grande, Quêlo, Pedra do Feitiço and Sumba.
According to the provincial director of the Social Support Fund (FAS), João Maurício da Costa, the names of the beneficiaries on the registration database are being checked and any complaints attended to.
Costa added that during this process, which will last 12 days, those citizens who already benefit from other support granted by the state will be removed from the FAS database, as Kwenda is only aimed at families in vulnerable social situations.
He assured that teams made up of Community and Health Development Agents (ADECOS), technicians from his institution and the Soyo Municipal Administration are deployed in the communes covered to fulfill this mission.
The arrival of Kwenda in Soyo brings to five the number of municipalities in Zaire that have already benefited from this program financed by the Angolan Executive and the World Bank , with only Mbanza Kongo, the provincial capital, still to come.
Kwenda’s main aim is to directly transfer income for families in situations of vulnerability and poverty in Angola, having increased the value of the quarterly income from 25,000 kwanzas to 33,000 kwanzas.
The program is operated by the FAS, a government agency with legal personality and financial and administrative autonomy, which, in coordination with other anti-poverty programs, contributes to promoting the sustainable development of communities. PMV/JL/AMP
