Benguela – A total of 20 journalists from various media outlets took part in a seminar on techniques to identify and deal with fake news, in Benguela province, ANGOP has learnt.
The training program was promoted by the Press Office of the Benguela Provincial Government, in collaboration with the company Manifexto and the Benguela Press Club (CIB).
It aimed to equip professionals with tools to identify and eliminate fake news.
According to Zenilson de Almeida, director-general of Manifexto, a lot of fabricated or altered information and images are currently appearing on the social networks, and both journalists and the general population find it difficult to distinguish the true from the false.
He said that in Angola there is still no organization working to verify the facts.
Contents such as manipulation, fabrication and conspiracy theories are being presented at the seminar, considered very pertinent by journalists taking into account the impact this information can have on society.
Manifexto has trained around 40 journalists since last year in Luanda province. This is the first time it has left the capital and it is already thinking of travelling to other provinces for the same purpose.
