Luanda – Angolan journalist Hernâni Correia received, on Monday, in Luanda, the second place certificate in the “Television” category of the 2024 SADC Media award.
Professional from Angola Public Television (TPA), based in the Province of Lunda-Norte, reached 2nd place in the prize with the report “Commercial exchanges between Angola and DRC, on the Tchicolondo border”.
In a group of 7 competitors, led by Zimbabwean journalist, Debra Matabvu, the Angolan professional had an average of 70.4 points.
In addition to the certificate, the winner has a monetary prize of US$1.000,00.
When speaking to the press, Hernâni Correia considered the award as a significant step in his career that gives him more responsibility, as a new generation journalist.
He dedicated the award to his colleagues, mainly those who worked directly on the aforementioned report.
On the occasion, the Chair of the 2024 SADC Awards National Adjudication Committee (NAC), Anastácio de Brito, said that the aforementioned certificate was signed by the Angola Head of State, João Lourenço.
He highlighted that this journalism award is an initiative that aims not only to reward good journalistic quality, but also the ties between the member countries of Southern Africa, with the aim of promoting good cooperation between people.
He highlighted that television journalism is a powerful tool that has the potential to change opinions, educate the public and contribute to building a more informed and critical society.
The prizes handover ceremony was guided by the minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Mass Media, Mário Oliveira, and was attended by the Secretary of State for Media, Nuno Caldas, and the SADC national secretary, Nazaré Salvador.
The SADC Journalism Award was established in 1996, to recognize and encourage the work of media professionals who contribute to the objectives of integration and development in the region.
