Huambo – Journalist Valentino Kulivela Yequenha, from Angola News Agency (ANGOP) won the 2024 Journalism Forum award, in a ceremony held today, March 1, in the city of Huambo.
The announcement of the winner and the delivery of the respective prize took place in the auditorium of the Integrated Technological Training Center (CINFOTEC) of Huambo, with the presence from Governor Lotti Nolika.
The professional was distinguished for work that promotes gender equality and shows the challenges that women face in society, especially in rural areas.
The winner received a check for one million Kwanzas and a certificate of merit.
On the occasion, journalist Valentino Kulivela Yequenha said it was a very happy and unexpected moment for him, as he did just the aforementioned work to contribute to social development.
During the event, journalist Aurora da Conceição Guerreiro, from the Provincial da Huíla broadcaster of the Rádio Nacional da Angola Group, was also awarded the Career Prize.
She, who began her career in 1981, as an announcer, editor and reporter, also received a check valued at one million Kwanzas and certificates of merit.
By the way, the journalist said it was a moment of pride and joy for her, as it crowned her many years of dedication and work in the journalistic profession.
When speaking at the event, the governor of the province of Huambo, Lotti Nolika, praised the initiative of the Forum of Women Journalists for Gender Equality (FMJIG), as it reflects the respect and consideration deserved by the country's media professionals.
She said that FMJIG represents not only a channel for the dissemination of impartial information, but also a means of strengthening public and private institutions, which encourages greater journalistic practice, promotes the consolidation of creative investigation and fosters a vision innovative professional.
The governor encouraged journalists to permanently train themselves to better deal with the challenges of the modern world, as well as to be focused on disseminating informative content, which addresses rural women, the fight for gender equality, the fight against domestic violence and its contribution to the diversification of the economy.
By the way, the FMJG coordinator, Milena Costa, explained that the announcement of the winners and the respective award ceremony took place in the province of Huambo, to make it more national, in addition to being a region that has a considerable number of professionals reference in the country.
She appealed to other journalists in the country to participate in the next editions, sending their articles, as the initiative is a brand that is here to stay in the national market.
Previous editions were won by Margarida Bravo (2020), from Televisão Pública de Angola (TPA), Marlene Euba (2021) from Rádio Nacional de Angola, Paulina António (2022) from TPA, while the winners of the Career award were Nsiona Casimiro, Reginaldo Silva and Josefa Lamberga.
Founded in 2009, FMJIG is an Angolan civil society organization, which brings together women journalists from public and private media outlets, with the aim of carrying out actions to combat domestic violence and gender-based violence, in addition to seeking respect for women's rights.
