Luanda - The director general of the National Children's Institute (INAC), Paulo Kalesi, defended Tuesday, in Luanda, a prison sentence of between 15 and 20 years for citizens who commit crimes of sexual violence against minors, in order to discourage this practice in the country.
According to the official, a proposal in this regard is being drawn up and will be presented to the Executive shortly.
“INAC is committed to preparing a proposal to revise the Penal Code, which will be presented to the Executive as soon as it is completed. We are committed to the protection and safety of our children, so we will continue to work to safeguard their rights”, he highlighted.
According to the director, who spoke on the Grande Entrevista talk show on Angola Public TV (TPA), the institution registered, from January to August this year, more than 700 cases of sexual violence against children, the majority of which were committed by parents, stepfathers, uncles, grandparents, pastors, teachers and health professionals.
For this reason, he called for combined efforts to defend and protect children's rights, so that they grow up in harmony and can contribute to the country's development.
On the occasion, Paulo Kalesi praised the launch of the "We Are All Equal" campaign, initiated by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, which aims, among other objectives, to combat sexual violence.
“The axes of this project, embraced by the First Lady, are contributing to strengthening the protection of children’s rights”, he stressed.
