Ondjiva – The provincial secretary of the Evangelical Congregational Church of Angola (IECA) in Cunene Province, Domingos Gonçalves, reiterated on Sunday, in the municipalities of Ondjiva, the congregation's commitment to promoting moral values among young people.
Speaking to ANGOP in the scope of the celebrations of the first anniversary of the Provincial Synod of Cunene, the reverend highlighted that the church, as a partner of the State, is concerned about the behaviour of some young people in society.
He explained that in view of the values lost by certain people, the church has carried out evangelical campaigns to draw the attention of young people so that they can have healthy and acceptable attitudes in society.
“We have been monitoring acts of vandalization of public property and we try to transmit advice on Sundays that influence the recovery of moral, civic and cultural values, for the social development of families”, he highlighted.
On the other hand, the religious leader expressed his concern regarding the excessive alcohol consumption from some members of the society, especially in the city of Ondjiva, an act seen as “killing the spiritual life of families”.
The religious leader highlighted that the church is designing a spiritual revival program to help correct this behaviour that he considers takes a person on a path without a future.
Domingos Gonçalves highlighted that they are in the phase of requesting land from municipal administrations, for the construction of schools and health centers, with the aim of helping the government in the social aspect.
The evangelical campaign and thanksgiving session of the first year of the Provincial Synod of Cunene, was attended by members of the municipalities of Cuanhama, Ombadja, Namacunde, Curoca, Cahama and Cuvelai.
The Evangelical Congregational Church of Angola, has been in Cunene since 1999.
