Luanda - The Luanda government said Monday that it has created conditions to support the pilgrimage to Muxima Sanctuary, set to take place from September 1-3 in Quiçama municipality.
Following an audience with the Viana Diocese bishop, Dom Emílio Sumbelelo, Luanda governor, Manuel Homem, said the focal points of the government and the Church is to ensure the monitoring of the actions necessary to enable the pilgrimage to run orderly.
Manuel Homem said the audience also served to disclose what the government has developed in recent years in favour of the pilgrimage to Muxima.
Bishop Emílio Sumbelelo, on his turn, said the meeting served to discuss about the staff to secure transport and other important aspects of the event.
As a national event, there are always precautions and services to be taken into account, the Bishop said, underlining that conditions need to be created from now with support of the provincial government for the nationwide pilgrimage.
The pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Muxima, where about two million national and foreign Catholics are expected to take part in, is the largest Catholic festival held in Angola that dates back to 1883. The site is located on the banks of the Cuanza River, in the village of Muxima, Quiçama municipality.
The Muxima Sanctuary is located about 130 kilometres from Luanda city. ML/ART/Amp/jmc
